Sometimes, our slips would peek out underneath and actually hang below the hem. It was actually considered a sin for any signs of the ol’ nylon fabric to be seen. After all, it was an undergarment, an unmentionable, that was best to keep hidden.

In my life, this scenario repeated itself for many years.

If you’re a woman reading this message, you may remember when we wore slips under our skirts or dresses. Sometimes, our slips would peek out underneath and actually hang below the hem. It was actually considered a sin for any signs of the ol’ nylon fabric to be seen. After all, it was an undergarment, an unmentionable, that was best to keep hidden.

Thus, when signs of life came creeping below the hem, another compassionate woman would come to our rescue and whisper, “Excuse me, your slip is showing.“ And this statement would precipitate a run to the bathroom to hike up the slip so the evidence of things we do not mention was securely hidden safely from sight. In my life, this scenario repeated itself for many years.

There are boundaries, you know….

Come to think of it, slips never seemed to fit correctly, and would wreak all sorts of havoc and many runs to the bathroom to re-position the darn things. I could never find one that I didn’t have to roll up several times around the waist line….YIKES! All sorts of shifting and body gyrations could be seen throughout the day as I tried to prevent any escape from occurring beyond the boundary of the hem. This visualization reminds me of the character, Elaine Benes, on Seinfeld, when she does her infamous dance routine. I love Elaine!

I say we release our slips and replace them with joy….

Slips are just a metaphor for our lives. No longer do we have to be afraid of putting something on that doesn’t bring us joy and represent who we are. Personally, I never liked the feeling of having a slip on, but thought I was “supposed” to wear one. I’m releasing more and more of “supposed” to and be free from those perceptions and beliefs. In doing so, I illuminate who I really am, and all of me gets to be seen. Naked is good J .

Excuse me, your joy is showing….

Think of the beauty in this statement. There’s nothing that we need to hide. We want our joy to be seen and this means we can release anything that says otherwise. If I’m doing something because I feel I‘m supposed to or doing something for any other reason than basking right now in pure bliss, then I’m hiding and joy can’t be illuminated for all to see.

Just like Marianne Williamson says, “…it is not our darkness that we are afraid of, we are actually afraid of our light.” We are here, right now, to demonstrate our electric light orchestra, our light show, our galaxy of stars. Remember, we’re so HOT, we make fire jealous, and we sizzle!

Think about it….what are you putting on that doesn’t feel right so you can release it and show your joy?
